An Antigua Threads belt will have everyone asking where you got it. You will be the center of attention and the most interesting man in the room. It screams world traveler and savant of all things interesting and sophisticated. You are wearing history.
Most people wear plain black and brown belts. And guess what? Most people are as boring as their belts. Your belt says everything about you. It is a small piece of your outfit that signals to others whether you are worth talking to or not.

The idea for Antigua Threads seemed obvious when we first found the vibrant yet vintage and relaxed belts on the streets of Antigua, Guatemala.
We brought these belts home to become a staple of our wardrobes. People asked about them. People loved them. They were different than any belt you could find at home. And they had a cool story.
Antigua Threads belts are woven by Mayan women using a traditional, 3,000-year-old technique on a foot loom - an incredibly simple wooden machine. Watching these women weave the beautiful patterns you see in our products is mesmerizing and incredibly meditative.

The weavers were all taught this craft from their mothers and grandmothers, spanning generations. Unfortunately, it is an ancient traditional craft that is dying out in younger generations.
That is why our mission is to keep this tradition alive and show the world this beautiful art from Guatemala, the heart of the Mayan world.
