Why We Fell in Love with Guatemala: The Heart Behind Antigua Threads

When we first set foot in Guatemala, it wasn’t just the breathtaking landscapes that captivated us. It was the soul of the country — the warm, communal spirit of its people, the rich history, and the craftsmanship that inspired Antigua Threads.

A Country Full of Character and History

Guatemala is a place where history seems to come alive on every corner. One of our favorite cities, Antigua, showcases stunning colonial architecture, a stark contrast to the minimalist trends we see today. The cobblestone streets and brightly colored facades tell a story that's centuries old. Walking through Antigua feels like stepping into a time machine, but instead of feeling outdated, the city feels alive with tradition and culture. It’s this authenticity that inspired us to create a brand that honors the past while making products for the modern world.

A Landscape of Wonder

Guatemala’s landscape is as diverse as its culture. The country is home to towering volcanoes that shape the Antigua skyline, like Volcán de Agua and Pacaya. Thousands of tourists climb Volcan Acatenango and watch Volcan Fuego erupt every night. Then there’s Lake Atitlán, a serene expanse of water surrounded by lush highlands and volcanoes, considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Exploring the Mayan ruins of Tikal, set deep in the jungle, transports you to an ancient world, where pyramids rise out of the dense greenery (we'll write a post dedicated to Tikal later). This landscape continues to fuel our passion for creating products that reflect Guatemala’s beauty.
