Our Story

Antigua Threads handwoven Maya belt worn on the streets of Antigua, Guatemala

Our Story

Woven by hand, built to last

Antigua Threads began with a simple belief: the things you wear every day should be made by real people, with real skill, and made to last a lifetime. We found that in the highlands of Guatemala — in Antigua and the surrounding towns, where Maya artisans have been weaving by hand for generations.

The craft

Every belt, strap, and textile we make is handwoven on traditional foot looms by Maya artisans in the Guatemalan highlands. The weaving is then built over a full-grain leather base and finished with solid antique brass hardware — materials chosen to age gracefully and develop character over decades of wear.

No two pieces are exactly alike, because no two are made by machine.

The people behind the work

We work directly with the artisans who make our products, paying for skilled, dignified work rather than the lowest possible price. Every purchase helps sustain a craft passed down through generations — and supports the families who keep it alive.

Made to be worn for years

We’re not interested in disposable fashion. Full-grain leather doesn’t just hold up; it transforms, earning a patina that becomes entirely your own. Many of our customers tell us their belt looks better after a year of wear than the day it arrived. That’s the point.
